Beggars Banquet by Ian Rankin is a compelling collection of short stories showcasing the author's mastery of crime fiction. Published in 2002, it gathers tales originally featured in magazines, events, and radio, blending gritty mysteries with Rankin's signature Edinburgh atmosphere and sharp characterizations. Several stories star the iconic Detective Inspector John Rebus, tackling cases from macabre horrors like The Hanged Man to ironic twists in The Only True Comedian and sociological insights in Glimmer, all delivering taut plots and vivid prose without a weak entry in the lineup.
