A lively and informative guide to the colorful language of the Royal Air Force, this volume gathers the slang, jargon, and informal expressions used by airmen, particularly during the Second World War. Compiled by renowned lexicographer Eric Partridge—one of the twentieth century’s leading authorities on slang and unconventional English—it offers definitions, origins, and contextual notes that illuminate the humor, resilience, and camaraderie of RAF life. Beyond its linguistic interest, the book provides a vivid glimpse into military culture and the social history of wartime Britain. An engaging resource for historians, aviation enthusiasts, and anyone fascinated by the evolution of English.
