Digital Fortress by Dan Brown is a techno-thriller centered on the NSA's supercomputer TRANSLTR, which fails to crack an unbreakable algorithm called Digital Fortress created by ex-employee Ensei Tankado. Tankado threatens to release it publicly unless the NSA discloses its surveillance secrets, prompting cryptographer Susan Fletcher and her fiancé David Becker to race against time amid betrayals by Commander Strathmore, who harbors ulterior motives. As Becker hunts a vital ring in Seville while evading assassins, Susan battles a destructive worm threatening the agency's database, exploring themes of privacy, deception, and government overreach in a pulse-pounding plot.
