This novelization of Steven Spielberg’s beloved film tells the story of a gentle alien accidentally left behind on Earth and the lonely boy who befriends him. As the two form a secret bond, they must evade suspicious adults and government agents while trying to find a way for the visitor to return home. At its heart, the story is about friendship, empathy, childhood wonder, and the pain of separation, capturing both the excitement and vulnerability of seeing the world through a child’s eyes.
William Kotzwinkle, an award‑winning American author known for his imaginative and often whimsical fiction, expands on the film’s emotional core by exploring the inner thoughts of both the boy and the stranded extraterrestrial. This edition will appeal to readers who cherish the original movie, as well as anyone drawn to heartfelt science fiction that celebrates connection across worlds.
