Mansfield Park, Jane Austen's 1814 novel, follows shy and principled Fanny Price, a poor young girl sent at age ten to live with her wealthy aunt and uncle at their grand estate in Northamptonshire. Amidst her cousins' social ambitions, flirtations, and moral lapses—including a scandalous amateur theater production and romantic entanglements with charming but unreliable siblings Mary and Henry Crawford—Fanny quietly endures neglect and develops deep feelings for her kind cousin Edmund. Sent back to her chaotic Portsmouth home as punishment for rejecting Henry's proposal, she witnesses the fallout from her cousins' imprudent choices, ultimately finding her steadfast virtue rewarded with love and security at Mansfield Park.
