A concise and lucid introduction to the life and thought of Bertrand Russell, one of the twentieth century’s most influential philosophers. Written by A. J. Ayer—himself a prominent analytic philosopher and leading figure in logical positivism—this study offers both intellectual biography and critical exposition. Ayer traces Russell’s development from his early work in logic and the foundations of mathematics to his contributions to philosophy of language, epistemology, and social criticism. The book also touches on Russell’s public role as a political activist and moral voice. Clear, balanced, and accessible, it serves as an excellent entry point for readers interested in modern philosophy and the evolution of analytic thought.
