The Memoirs of Sherlock Holmes is a 1893 collection of 12 short stories by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle featuring detective Sherlock Holmes and his companion Dr. John Watson. These tales, narrated mostly by Watson, showcase Holmes tackling diverse Victorian-era mysteries—from the theft of a champion racehorse in Silver Blaze and gruesome discoveries like severed ears in The Cardboard Box, to historical puzzles in The Musgrave Ritual and blackmail schemes in The Gloria Scott. The volume culminates dramatically in The Final Problem, where Holmes confronts his arch-nemesis Professor Moriarty at Reichenbach Falls, an episode Doyle intended as the detective's farewell.
