A powerful early novel by acclaimed writer and journalist Francisco Goldman, this book follows a group of young Guatemalan sailors who find themselves stranded and abandoned in Brooklyn. Far from home and with little English, they struggle to survive in a city that is at once indifferent and predatory. As their situation grows increasingly desperate, the story becomes a stark portrait of exploitation, solidarity, and the fragile hopes that drive migration. Goldman, known for his deeply reported fiction and later celebrated works, brings compassion and moral urgency to this tale of displacement. A gripping, humane exploration of immigrant life on the margins of the American dream.
