The Turn of the Screw and Other Stories is a collection featuring Henry James's classic 1898 gothic horror novella The Turn of the Screw, alongside other tales of psychological tension and the supernatural. The novella follows an unnamed governess hired to care for two orphaned children, Miles and Flora, at the eerie estate of Bly, where she becomes convinced that malevolent ghosts—those of the deceased valet Peter Quint and former governess Miss Jessel—are menacing the innocents and conspiring to corrupt their souls. Told through the governess's unreliable first-person narrative, the story masterfully blurs the line between spectral hauntings and psychological delusion, exploring themes of innocence, repression, and the ambiguity of perception, while the accompanying stories amplify James's signature ambiguity and subtle dread.
