This book traces the evolution of the fighting vessel, from the earliest adaptations of primitive craft, through the long age of sail, the coming of steam and the brief period when national pride and naval glory were shown off in mighty battle fleets, to the revolutions brought about by aircraft, missilies and nuclear power, captured in the superb selection of illustrations, many in colour.
