Glavni je lik ovog romana Tin (Martin) Rondolfo, ugledni hrvatski pravni stručnjak rođen u Rijeci 1942. godine. Po završetku studija Tin počinje raditi u struci i ubrzo stječe status iznimno uspješnog odvjetnika kojemu nije cilj zaraditi nizanjem sudskih sporova, već pomiriti sukobljene strane i naći rješenje pa baš stoga i dobiva naziv Mirotvorac. Zbog velike popularnosti vlasti ga miču iz Hrvatske i »usmjeravaju« prema Strasbourgu i Europskom sudu za ljudska prava gdje će također imati puno uspjeha, da bi se potom po povratku u Hrvatsku proslavio u slučaju suđenja za jedno mučko ubojstvo za koje je vezan i naslov romana.
