Imoralist

The story of a man, Michel, who travels through Europe and North Africa, attempting to transcend the limitations of conventional morality by surrendering to his appetites (including his attraction to young Arab boys), while neglecting his wife Marceline.

Glavni junaci Amita, indijska imigrantkinja i Jorgos, sin uglednog grčkog preduzetnika, pričaju svoje priče, naizgled različite. Od ljubavi do mržnje, od prijatelja do stranaca, preko laži i istine o svetu u kome živimo. Pored Amite i Jorgosa, čitalac upoznaje i dve potpuno različite porodice, okovane u lance intriga, skandala, tajni.

Historic Costume in Pictures

From 1861 to 1890 the Munich publishing firm of Braun & Schneider published plates of historic and contemporary costume in their magazine Münchener Bilderbogen. These plates were eventually collected in book form and published at the turn of the century in Germany and England. This volume presents all 125 double-spread plates from the third English edition. For the first time, the plates appear in chronological order and with English captions. Over 1,450 costumed figures are shown, from antiquity to the end of the nineteenth century, covering a wide variety of social classes, and professions: Egyptian and Assyrian kings, Byzantine emperors, Frankish and Norman nobles, priests, servants, soldiers of many lands and eras, crusaders, German knights, pages, Italian scholars, German townspeople, peasants, merchants, Dutch burghers, popes, nuns, bishops, monks, English Puritans and Cavaliers, English and French kings, Swiss citizens, French courtiers and republicans, and many more. In addition, there is excellent coverage of late-nineteenth-century folk and their costumes, captured just before the beginning of standard Western dress — Italian, Spanish, Dutch, French, German, Russian, Eastern European, Chinese, Japanese, Asian, and others. To avoid the variable and somewhat fanciful depictions of color in the early editions, all costumes are rendered in black-and-white. A comprehensive source of historic costume in pictures, this remarkable book will be invaluable to costume designers, students of fashion design, commercial artists, and anyone interested in the history of dress. The illustrations are uniformly excellent, and the exceptionally low price makes this book even more attractive.

God’s Equation : Einstein, Relativity, and the Expanding Universe

Are we on the verge of solving the riddle of creation using Einstein’s greatest blunder? In a work that is at once lucid, exhilarating and profound, renowned mathematician Dr. Amir Aczel, critically acclaimed author of Fermat’s Last Theorem, takes us into the heart of science’s greatest mystery. In January 1998, astronomers found evidence that the cosmos is expanding at an ever-increasing rate. The way we perceive the universe was changed forever. The most compelling theory cosmologists could find to explain this phenomenon was Einstein’s cosmological constant, a theory he conceived–and rejected—over eighty years ago. Drawing on newly discovered letters of Einstein–many translated here for the first time–years of research, and interviews with prominent mathematicians, cosmologists, physicists, and astronomers, Aczel takes us on a fascinating journey into the strange geometry of space-time, and into the mind of a genius. Here the unthinkable becomes real: an infinite, ever-expanding, ever-accelerating universe whose only absolute is the speed of light. Awesome in scope, thrilling in detail, God’s Equation is storytelling at its finest.

Deviant Behavior : Fifth Edition

Deviant Behavior by Erich Goode provides a comprehensive study of the behavior, beliefs, conditions, and reactions to deviance, giving students a better understanding of this phenomenon. Deviance is discussed from the sociological perspectives of positivism and constructionism. Readers will grasp the reason behind deviant behavior through the positivist perspective and why certain actions, beliefs, and physical characteristics are condemned through the constructionist perspective.

Criminal Profiling : An Introduction to Behavioral Evidence Analysis

Criminal Profiling is a unique work centered on the deductive profiling method developed by the author and motivated by the limited knowledge available regarding the criminal profiling process. Deductive profiling is different from other forms of profiling in that it focuses on criminal profiling as an investigative process, solving real crime through an honest understanding of the nature and behavior of criminals. It approaches each criminal incident as its own universe of behaviors and relationships. Throughout the text, the author illustrates and emphasizes the most crucial tenet that any good criminal profiler should adhere to: the enthusiastic desire to investigate and examine the facts. This Second Edition contains the same core knowledge that made the first edition a best-seller while introducing a wealth of new material. This expanded and thoroughly revised edition includes a completely new set of case studies including the Sam Sheppard trial. New chapters include expanded coverage on false reports, psychological autopsies, criminal profiling in court, stalking, domestic homicide, sexual asphyxia, and staged crime scenes. Contributors include: John J. Baeza, Eoghan Casey, W. Jerry Chisum, Dana S. La Fon, Michael McGrath, Wayne Petherick.
