Cassiodorus

Cassiodorus – statesman, historian, philologist, theologian, monk and founder of monasteries, and educational theorist of the sixth century A.D. – stood at the crossroads between antiquity and the middle ages. Despite the variety and sophistication of his works and his importance to many specialized disciplines, no serious effort has been made in three hundred years to set forth what is known about his life and works as a whole. Professor O’Donnell’s book undertakes to remedy this deficiency in the belief that knowledge of the whole will be of value in itself and will also greatly facilitate further serious study of the many facets of Cassiodorus’ life and works.
