Musee d’Orsay

This new guide presents all the collections of the Musée d’Orsay, which cover a period from 1848 to 1914 and include works belonging to all the arts: paintings, sculpture, architecture, photography, decorative arts. The book also retraces, in a first part, the history of the place and the building: first the Orléans railway station built by the architect Victor Laloux between 1898 and 1900, then disused on the eve of the Second World War, this building only became a museum in 1989, after complete interior renovation. The international fame of the Musée d’Orsay is due in particular to its collection of Impressionist works, the largest in the world. This richly illustrated guide reproduces many recent acquisitions that did not appear in its old version.
